Classes of Service

Unreserved Coach

Choose an Unreserved Coach ticket if you want maximum flexibility for deciding when to travel. Use an Unreserved Coach ticket to ride any Pacific Surfliner train between the stations on your ticket up to one year from the date of your reservation, subject to certain restrictions).

This type of ticket doesn’t require any modifications, and is convenient in many situations:

  • Take an earlier train if you are ready to go home sooner
  • Take a later train if you want more time to explore
  • Ride an earlier or later train if the one you were planning to take is delayed or expected to be busier than you’d like
  • Ride at a later date if you want to postpone your trip, whether it’s by a day, week, or a few months

Business Class

Business Class tickets offer guaranteed seating and other perks. Advance reservations are required. The number of Business Class seats on each train is limited, so it’s best to book early before they sell out. If your plans change and you need to ride an earlier or later train, you will need to modify your Business Class reservation in advance.

Types of Tickets

Single Ride / Round-Trip Ticket
Use a one-way ticket to take a single trip from a departure station to a destination. Use a round-trip ticket to ride from a departure station to a destination and back. The second trip on a return-trip ticket can be booked for the same day or a later date.

10-Ride Ticket
Ten-Ride tickets are valid for 10 one-way trips between two selected stations within a 60-day period, offering a significant savings over booking trips individually. These tickets are non-transferable. However, more than one person may use a 10-ride ticket at one time, as long as the person named on the ticket is one of the passengers traveling and all passengers are traveling together. For example, five people could ride together round-trip (5 tickets each way) on one 10-trip ticket.

Multi-City Ticket
Book a trip in segments with a multi-city ticket to stop at multiple destinations along the way at no additional cost. The starting and ending stations are used to calculate the cost rather than the number of segments booked. Trips must be planned in advance, with adequate time built in to make connecting trains.

Monthly Ticket
Monthly tickets are valid for unlimited travel for a single person between two selected stations and all stations in between for an entire calendar month. The distance between the two stations determines the price of the ticket.

Group Tickets
Amtrak offers discounted travel for groups of 15 or more. The process includes filling out a group travel request form online or contacting Amtrak. Learn more. There is a separate program for schools and youth groups called Kids ‘n’ Trains.
