Now that we have a pet program, you can bring your small dog or cat along by simply adding a pet reservation on your next Pacific Surfliner trip. Being in Southern California, many of our destinations are fun and accommodating for your furry travel buddy.

Here are some of our top picks:

San Juan Capistrano

Take a scenic walk through the historic Los Rios district, and explore the grounds of Mission San Juan Capistrano (dogs are allowed on weekdays). Have lunch at Trevors on the Tracks, which allows pets on their outdoor patio – there’s even a dish called the “Surfliner”!

Ventura

Head to the beach for some fun on the sand! Surfers Point (the beach right next to the train station) welcomes leashed dogs. Take a walk along the Ventura Pier (leashed dogs are allowed there, too!) For a limited time, some hotels are offering a special “pooch pouch” for visitors traveling with their dogs. Learn more.

Grover Beach

The Pacific Surfliner’s Grover Beach is the gateway to the Oceano Sand Dunes, which features rolling hills of sand that meet the water. Or, head to the Monarch Butterfly Grove at nearby Pismo Beach to go nose-to-nose with monarch butterflies who rest in the eucalyptus and cypress trees.

San Luis Obispo

Nothing is too good for your pooch, including a day at one of Southern California’s award-winning wineries. Just a 10-minute ride from the San Luis Obispo Station, pets are welcome at many vineyards and tasting rooms, like Wolff Vineyards. If you prefer to hit the hiking trails with your pet, Terrace Hill Loop is less than a half mile from the train station and offers panoramic views of the area.
