Track Work and Service Alerts

Upcoming Corridor-Wide Closure – September 12-13, 2026

There will be no Pacific Surfliner trains operating between San Diego and San Luis Obispo during the weekend of September 12-13, 2026, due to Union Pacific, Metrolink and NCTD track closures both north and south of Los Angeles. No bus bridges will be provided.

Metrolink's repair work will also affect Train 794 and 595 on the evening of September 11, 2026. Train 794 will terminate in Los Angeles with passengers accommodated by Bus. Train 595 will be cancelled with passengers accommodated by Bus. Please plan ahead for alternate travel arrangements.

Amtrak Connection Bus routes will continue to operate. However, any regularly scheduled train connections to the buses will not be available.

This closure is part of a coordinated effort by the host railroads along the LOSSAN corridor to complete critical track infrastructure projects, while reducing the overall impact on riders. Projects being advanced during the closure include:
- Orange Subdivision (just south of Irvine Station): A reroute of the Borrego Creek channel and the need to jack (or push) a new channel box under the railroad. This is to extend Marine Way under the tracks and provide additional access to OC Great Park.
- Orange Subdivision (San Clemente area): Reconfigure work zones for the on-going slope stabilization and trail reconstruction work
- Ventura Subdivision (in Tunnel 26 north of Chatsworth): Ballast cleaning and water pump maintenance to protect track from rotting.
- Ventura Subdivision (various locations): General Track maintenance and rehab
The work is occurring concurrently in various locations to reduce the number of future track closures and minimize the overall impact to passengers while making critical infrastructure improvements.
September 19–20: Los Angeles–Van Nuys Bus Bridge

Due to track work repair, Pacific Surfliner service will be temporarily interrupted between Los Angeles and Van Nuys on September 19–20. Passengers on affected trains will transfer to connecting bus service* between Los Angeles and Van Nuys before continuing their trip by train. Additional travel time should be expected.

Northbound: Trains 761, 765, 769, 777 and 785 will connect to buses* at Los Angeles for service to Van Nuys, where passengers will transfer to connecting trains.

Southbound: Trains 770, 774, 782, 790 and 794 will connect to bus service* between Van Nuys and Los Angeles.

Trains 757 and 786 will be cancelled.

*Buses will not make the Glendale and Burbank stops

Schedule Changes

More trains. More flexibility. Starting May 4, Pacific Surfliner adds new trips to Goleta and San Luis Obispo—making weekday travel easier than ever.

Bus Schedule Changes

Effective April 1, 2026:

Santa Barbara/San Luis Obispo/Oakland (Route 17)

Amtrak Connection buses on Route 17 will be running an adjusted bus schedule over the holidays on November 24, 25, 29, 2026:
- 4794 will depart 60 minutes earlier at all stops
- 4790 will depart 60 minutes earlier at all stops
Fullerton/Palm Springs/Coachella Valley (Route 39)

Amtrak Connection buses will be running an adjusted bus schedule to navigate traffic from the Coachella and Stagecoach music festivals on April 13, 20, 27, 2026:
- 4969 will depart 30 minutes earlier from origin through Palm Springs Downtown (PSS) and resume normal timing Riverside (RIV)
- The Cabazon (CBZ) stop will be bypassed on these dates
A major 55-hour full weekend closure is scheduled for eastbound Interstate 80 in San Francisco from Friday, April 17, at 11:00 PM to Monday, April 20, 2026, at 6:00 AM. Caltrans is performing essential structural rehabilitation on the 71-year-old Central and Bayshore freeway viaducts.

Weekend Service Alert (April 18–20)
From 11:00 PM Friday through 6:00 AM Monday, some train service will be temporarily suspended.
- Route 17 trains between San Jose and San Francisco will not run during this time (see affected train numbers below).
- If you still need to travel, you can use Caltrain weekend service as an alternative:

CONSTRUCTION AROUND SANTA FE DEPOT (DOWNTOWN SAN DIEGO STATION)

Passengers traveling through the San Diego Station should be aware of overnight roadway closures related to ongoing construction improvements in the area.

During these hours, Kettner Boulevard between B Street and Broadway will be closed to all vehicle traffic. The closure is necessary to complete roadway striping and pavement work as part of the construction project currently underway.

Station Access
- Pedestrian access to the station will remain available.
- Passenger pick-up and drop-off, as well as bus loading and unloading, will be relocated to the intersection of B Street and Kettner Boulevard.
- No vehicles will be permitted north of B Street toward the station during the closure periods.
- The temporary pick-up/drop-off location is approximately one-half block from the station.
Construction activities are currently scheduled for completion by end of July 2026. Additional updates will be provided as they become available.

We appreciate your patience and understanding while these improvements are completed.
Pacific Surfliner trains continue to serve all stations according to the schedules. However, some ticket windows are currently closed at the following stations:
- San Juan Capistrano: Nearest staffed station is Anaheim
- Santa Ana: Nearest staffed station is Anaheim
- Irvine: Nearest staffed station is Anaheim
Solana Beach:
- Nearest staffed station is Santa Fe Depot (San Diego) or Oceanside
- Limited station hours: open Saturday-Tuesday, closed Wednesday-Friday. Ticket window hours are 4:15 am to 12:30 am.

FAQs

Purchase tickets using the online booking tool (Book Now button at the top of the page), the Amtrak app, or by phone at 1-800-USA-RAIL. Irvine, Santa Ana, and Anaheim also have self-serve ticket kiosks (located inside the station building) where passengers can make new reservations, adjust existing reservations, or print out tickets.

Passengers without a smartphone or access to a ticket kiosk may call 1-800-USA-Rail to purchase a ticket. The Amtrak agent can provide a confirmation code once a trip is booked. That code can be given to the conductor on board in lieu of a printed or electronic ticket.
Unreserved Coach tickets can be saved and used at a later date (up to one year from the date listed on the ticket) without making any changes to the reservation. Some restrictions may apply, such as when the trains are all-reserved on peak travel days.

Business Class reservations do need to be updated if plans change. If you made your reservation online, visit Amtrak.com and select “Modify Trip”. Log into your Amtrak Guest Rewards account or enter your reservation number and email address to make changes to your trip. You can also call 800-USA-RAIL in advance of your ticketed departure.

Pacific Surfliner tickets are considered "Flexible Fares". Tickets can be cancelled with a full refund to original form of payment with no fees if canceled before departure. There are no change fees. You can get more details on cancellation policies on Amtrak.com.
